Indians select left-hander Kenny Mathews in seventh round

The Indians select left-hander Kenny Mathews in the seventh round today.

In the 7thround (201stoverall) the Indians selected LHP Kenny Mathews from Riverside City College in Riverside, California.

The 6'3', 200-pound lefty began his college career at Cal State Fullerton before transferrring to Riverside City College prior to his senior season. Matthews, 19, appeared in 12 games/9 starts for the Riverside Tigers going 3-1 with a 1.23 ERA (8 ER/58.1 IP) wih 52 strikeouts compared to just 2 walks. He limited opposing batters to a .228 average against and allowed just 8 extra base hits.

Went 5-4 with a 1.24 ERA (80 SO, 7 BB) in 62.0 innings as a senior at Diamond Bar High School and was selected in the 12th round of the First-Year-Player Draft in 2011 by the New York Mets.
