The Indians announced this morning that they have an agreement with catcher Carlos Santana on a five-year contract with an option.
Santana hit 27 homers in his first full season in 2011.
The Indians regard him as one of their core players and wanted to lock him up with a long-term deal. Last season, Santana batted .239 with 79 RBIs in 155 games.
Santana is the second Indians player to receive a new contract this season. All-Star shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera was given a three-year contract last week.
