McAllister hittable in loss to Athletics

By Sheldon Ocker Published: March 26, 2013

GOODYEAR, Ariz.: Zach McAllister didn't dazzle anyone in his final start of spring training today, but he showed a live arm, and he appears to be ready for the regular season, which begins Tueday.

""He had good life on his fastball,'' manager Terry Francona said. ""I think it gook him three inning to find his breaking pitch.

""After that minor-league game he pitched in last week, he was a little frustrated. In his next side, he let it go and that helped him.''

McAllister gave up five runs, eight hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings, as Oakland won a 7-6 deciison in 10 innings at Goodyear Ballpark.

The best news for Francona was the way Chris Perez dispatched the A's in the seventh inning, when he struck out one and threw a double-play ball after a batter reached on a throwing error.

""Chris looked real good, and he felt good,'' the manager said. ""He told me he felt  little rusty, but the ball was coming out of his hand really good. He probably was the highlight of the day.''
