MLB Draft on its way

By sstorm Published: June 7, 2010

The top three picks of the Major League baseball draft are expected to go rather smoothly with Washington kicking off tonight's festivities by selecting this season's phenom - 17-year old catcher Bryce Harper.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Baltimore Orioles pick second and third, respectively, and are expected to wipe Texas high school and right-handed pitcher Jameson Taillon and Miami high school shortstop Manny Machado off the board, though in which order remains to be seen.

But after those first three picks, all bets are off.

Kansas City selects fourth, followed by the Indians, who at No. 5, will pick the highest they have since the 1992 draft.

After years and years of failures, it's no secret the Tribe needs to get this pick right.

"It's very important," Tribe manager Manny Acta told "Look at what's happening with Tampa Bay right now. That didn't happen from one day to the next. It was the acculmulation of a lot of good drafts and almost 10 years where they were finishing in the bottom, making good decisions and developing those players."

Acta also knows the Indians simply don't have the luxury of missing in the draft and making up for it in other ways.

"It's very important because in our case, we can't just go out and buy two or three players in this free agent market," he said.

Check back with us throughout the evening - as we'll relay all of tonight's Top 50 picks - and keep up with who goes where, and most importantly, who will become the future of the Indians.
