Buck had been the A's Opening Day starting outfielder in each of the last three seasons (2008-10).

Buck's best season to date came during his rookie campaign of 2007 when he hit .288 (82-for-285) with 22 doubles, five triples, seven home runs and 34 RBI in 82 games, finishing second among American League rookies in slugging % (.474) and triples, third in on-base percentage (.377) and fifth in batting average, doubles and walks (39).

Buck, who has been slowed by injuries over the last three seasons, was Oakland’s sandwich first-round pick (36th overall) in the 2005 draft out of Arizona State University.
