Rehabbing Choo headed to Akron; Aeros roster moves

By sstorm Published: July 18, 2010

Indians right fielder Shin-Soo Choo is expected to begin a short rehab stint with the Aeros Monday. Although he could only be with the team for a day or two, Choo (right thumb) and currently Indians rehabbing shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera (forearm) will very likely be in the lineup together at least Monday.

In other Aeros news, RHP Zach Putnam was promoted to Triple-A Columbus Sunday while RHP Rob Bryson joined the Aeros from high Class-A Kinston.

Putnam got the good news Saturday night after he earned his third save for the Aeros in a 6-5 victory over the Erie SeaWolves.

Putnam, 23, was 4-1 with a 3.86 ERA in his 20 apperances (seven starts). He'd struck out 41 batters while issuing just nine walks over 51 1/3 innings. The Indians selected him in the fifth round of the 2008 Draft out of the University of Michigan.

Bryson earned the promotion to Akron after making his 13th relief appearance of the season Friday. The 22-year old was 2-1 with one save and a 2.25 ERA in the Carolina League this season, striking out 38 batters in only 20 innings compared to eight walks.

The Indians acquired Bryson along with 1B Matt LaPorta, LHP Zach Jackson and OF Michael Brantley from the Milwaukee Brewers in June 2008 in exchange for LHP C.C. Sabathia. Bryson was originally selected in the 31st round of the 2006 draft.
