Rondon headed back to Aeros rotation?

By sstorm Published: May 19, 2009

According to the Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes, Aeros ace-turned reliever, Hector Rondon, is expected to be moved back into the Aeros starting rotation.

Per Hoynes:
Right-hander Hector Rondon is returning to Class AA Akron's starting rotation Wednesday. The Indians moved Rondon to the bullpen for two appearances because they felt they may need his help in Cleveland.

Rondon, 5-0 as a starter, had trouble adjusting to the pen. He still could pitch his way to Cleveland this season because outside of Cliff Lee and Carl Pavano, the Indians are concerned about the rotation.

My thoughts are that it's a good move to put Rondon back where he belongs and has dominated, but why even make the move in the first place?

To make the move and then change their minds so quickly, reeks of panic in the front office. I know things aren't going as planned with the big club, but make a plan and then stick with it.

Besides, two outings is not a real barometer regardless of how uncomfortable Rondon appeared coming out of the pen.

I also question whether Rondon will start Wednesday in Trenton as that is Jeanmar Gomez's day to start. He, too, is on a roll, and I would hate to see Akron's two best starters get off track because of one desperate move.

Because Hoynes did not attribute for the nugget of info to anyone, my guess is that he got a heads up on the coming move, but had to fill in some blanks such as the day he'd pitch.

Either way, Rondon ought to be thrilled to be back in his comfort zone. Even if releiving was a faster way to the big leagues, he has the potential to be a No. 2 (perhaps No. 1 in the future) starter for the Tribe if they just leave him alone and let him develop.

If they feel he's pitching beyond Double-A, fine. Just move him up to Triple-A Columbus after he gets back on his feet in Akron.

Besides, if the Tribe keeps going the way they are, Rondon could be trying out for a spot in the Indians rotation this season anyway - during the meaningless months of August and September.
