Morning and early afternoon rain all around the Phoenix area forced the cancellation of today’s Indians 3:05 p.m. game (EST) against the host Chicago White Sox. It was the first rainfall in the area since mid December.
While the players probably didn’t mind enjoying their first break since spring training camp started a couple weeks ago (depending upon the exact date that each of them reported) the unscheduled day off interrupted the team’s pitching assignments.
Thus, veteran right-hander Aaron Harang, who was scheduled to start Saturday, is pushed back a day and is now slated for two innings today against the visiting Seattle Mariners.
Right-hander Trevor Baueris slated to follow Harang with two innings of his own. New assignments for relievers hasn’t been announced yet. To make room for the new schedule of starters, right-handed ace Justin Masterson will throw a simulated game on the side.
Sunday also marks the first game first baseman Nick Swisher is scheduled to play in after asking manager Terry Francona to be “eased into” the spring schedule.
