Saturdays minors awards and notes

* High Class-A RHP Cory Burns was tabbed the “Best Reliever” in the Carolina League in Baseball America’s recent “Best Tools” survey.

* In addition, several members of the Indians/Columbus Clippers were also recently named in BA's “Best Tools” survey by managers and scouts at the Triple-A Level: C Carlos Santana (best batting prospect/power prospect), CF Michael Brantley (strike zone judgment), CF Jose Constanza (fastest baserunner), C Lou Marson (best defensive catcher) and manager Mike Sarbaugh (Manager prospect).

* Short-season Mahoning Valley 3B Giovanny Urshela was recently named the New York-Penn League Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 2-8. Over that span Urshela batted .464 (13-for-28) with two doubles, two runs scored, two home runs and seven RBI.

* Speaking of the Scrappers, the team is slated to send three representatives to the New-York Penn League All-Star Game on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. played at Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George in Staten Island: 2B Dan DeGeorge and RHP's Alex Kaminisky and Owen Dew.
