MINNEAPOLIS: The Indians put Grady Sizemore on the 15-day disabled list today with a contusion of the right knee, but until further tests are done in Cleveland, it isn't asssured that the center fielder doesn't have a more serious issue.
So far, it is believed that the injury-- a bone bruise that is apt to linger for months -- is the same as the contusion that landed him on the DL from May 12 to May 27. But according to Sizemore, who was in the clubhouse before leaving for Cleveland, it feels more like the injury that led to microfracture surgery on his left knee last year.
Without Sizemore in the lineup, manager Manny Acta will use Ezequiel Carrera as his semi-everyday center fielder and platoon Austin Kearns and Travis Buck in right in the absence of Shin-Soo Choo, who also is on the DL.
Sizemore sustained the injury rounding first base on the way to a double in Sunday's 8-3 loss to the Orioles.
""You can't program yourself to not play hard when you're a guy like Grady,'' Acta said. ""You see how he throws himself around the outfield and dives for balls. You can't ask a guy like him to take it easy.''
