Sizemore, Smith to play in Akron Monday night

CLEVELAND: Grady Sizemore and Joe Smith returned to Progressive Field this morning and will play in an exhibiton game between Akron and Columbus at Canal Park Monday at 6 p.m.

Before the Indians broke camp in Arizona, Sizemore (microfracture knee surgery) already was playing in exhibition games, though he has not played in consecutive games and alternated between being the designated hitter and center fielder. Smith (strained ab) was throwing simulated games but when he throws one inning Monday night, it will be his first game action.

Smith didn't mind returning to chilly weather.

""I feel good, but the temperature down there was up to 99 the other day,'' he said.

Smith probably needs to throw only a few innings before he is activated. Sizemore isn't likely to come off the disabled list for at least two more weeks, maybe longer. Both players will participate in a second Aeros-Clippers exhibiton game on Wednesday in Columbus.
