Indians' Travis Hafner undergoes knee surgery, could miss six weeks

Indians designated hitter Travis Hafner has undergone surgery on his right knee and could be sidelined six weeks.

The club says the 30-minute operation to clean up frayed cartilage was done Thursday at the Cleveland Clinic.

   CHICAGO: The Indians will play the White Sox this afternoon with a diminished lineup after catcher Carlos Santana and shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera were scratched because of injuries sustained Friday night.

   The Tribe already was missing designated hitter Travis Hafner, who suffered a knee injury Wednesday and did not play Thursday or Friday.

Derek Lowe pitches shutout for Indians, 5-0 over Twins

Derek Lowe pitched his first shutout in nearly seven years, throwing a six-hitter this afternoon and leading the Indians over the Minnesota Twins 5-0.

Shin-Soo Choo scored after a leadoff double in the third inning, then hit the first of three Indians home runs in the fifth against Jason Marquis (2-3). Asdrubal Cabrera and Carlos Santana also homered to break the game open.

Tribe makes roster moves, including moving Tomlin to DL

   BOSTON: Josh Tomlin was scratched from tonight's start agsinst the Red Sox with soreness in his right wrist and placed on the 15-day disabled list.

  No detailed diagnosis or explanation of how the injury was sustained is yet available, but Zach McAllister was called up from Columbus to take Tomlin's start and presumably whatever starts he will miss while he's on the DL .
