Tribe calls up Gomes, Barnes; Marson goes on DL

By Sheldon Ocker Published: April 28, 2013

KANSAS CITY, Mo.: The Indians called up two more players and shipped one to the disabled list before today's day-night doubleheder against the Royals.

Catcher Yan Gomes and lefty reliever Scott Barnes were summoned from Columbus, and backup catcher Lou Marson was placed on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right shoulder.

The injury to Marson prompted the move to bring Gomes to Kansas City. He played six games for the Clippers, batting .300 with four doubles and three RBI.

Earlier this month, when Marson was down with a strained neck, Gomes batted .211 with a triple, two homers and three RBI in six games with the Tribe.

Under the new basic agreement, teams can call up an exta player for doubleheaders, which is why Barnes is here. At Columbus, he pitched seven times, compiling a 4.70 ERA in 7 2/3 innings.
