Tribe signs veteran reliever

By Sheldon Ocker Published: January 31, 2013

The Indians this afternoon signed veteran right-handed reliever Matt Capps to a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to big-league spring training.

Capps, 29, sent the last 2 1/2 seasons with the Twins, playing a prominent role in the bullpen, until he was sidelined twice in 2012 because of an injury.

He was the winning pitcher for the National League in the 2010 All-Star Game and split the season between Washington and Minnesota. He compiled a combined record of 5-3  and 2.47 earned-run average with 42 saves,

In 2011, Capps compiled a 4-7 record with 15 saves and 4.25 ERA for the Twins. He rebounded last year to post a 3.68 ERA and 14 saves (in 15 opportunities) but was limited to 30 apperances because of two trips to the disabled list with shoulder problems..
