Wednesday's Indians/Yankees lineups and pre-game notes

By Stephanie Storm Published: July 9, 2014

Here’s tonight’s starting lineups and pre-game notes for Wednesday's game – the third of the four-game series between the host Indians and Yankees.

Lineups:

Indians

2B Jason Kipnis

SS Asdrubal Cabrera

CF Michael Brantley

1B Carlos Santana

3B Lonnie Chisenhall

DH Nick Swisher

RF David Murphy

C Yan Gomes

LF Chris Dickerson

RHP Josh Tomlin

Yankees

CF Jacoby Ellsbury

DH Derek Jeter

C Brian McCann

1B Mark Teixeira

2B Brian Roberts

RF Ichiro Suzuk

LF Zoilo Almonte

3B Zelous Wheeler

SS Brendan Ryan

RHP Brandon McCarthy

NOTES:

* The Yankee were forced to shuffle their lineup when designated hitter Carlos Beltran suffered a facial contusion during batting practice when he was hit in the face by his own batted ball that caromed off the screen. That meant veteran shortstop Derek Jeter, who wasn’t in the original lineup, wouldn’t get the night off after all. However, Jeter only had to DH as Brendan Ryan was already slated to man shortstop for the night.

* Pitcher Brandon McCarthy is making his 19th start of the season, but his first in the American League following the July 3rd trade that brought him to New York from Houston in exchange for left-handed pitcher Vidal Nuno and cash considerations.

* McCarthy is 6-4 with a 4.38 ERA in 18 career appearance against the Tribe, including 10 starts.
