Wednesday's minor league wrap up

A look at how the Indians Minor League affiliates fared Wednesday:

Triple-A Columbus (65-41) - Host Columbus topped Buffalo 6-4...RHP Jeanmar Gomez (8-8, 5.20 ERA) allowed just three runs (two earned) on seven hits over seven innings to earn the win...2B Cord Phelps went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and a RBI.

Double-A Akron (54-48) - Rain postponed host Akron’s rubber match against Bowie in the second inning, as the game will now be made up next month in Bowie. A one-hour and 47-minute delay began the evening. Then after only 15 minutes of play, the umpires called for yet another pause in the action...With the postponement, the second-place Baysox's record remains 56-48 while Akron sits just one game behind at 54-48.

High Class-A Kinston (13-18 in second half) - Visiting Kinston lost 8-5 to Winston-Salem...RHP Joe Mahalic (3-6, 4.52 ERA) dished up five runs on four hits and three walks over six innings to take the loss...3B Kyle Bellows went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI...DH Chun Chen went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI.

Low Class-A Lake County (14-16 in second half) - Host Lake County was tied 8-8 in the sixth inning when this blog was completed...Earlier in the day, Whitecaps LHP Giovanni Soto was traded to the Indians for Tribe 3B Jhonny Peralta...But all Soto had to do to join his new team was change sides of the field. He is now scheduled to face his former teammates on the mound in his first start for the Captains Thursday.

Short-season Mahoning Valley (14-24) - Game one of a three-game series between visiting Mahoning Valley and Jamestown was suspended in the fourth inning and is scheduled to be made up as part of a doubleheader Thursday at Diethrick Park beginning at 6:05 p.m....The game will resume in the top of the fourth with LF Chase Burnette batting...Following game one, there will be a 30 minute intermission and then the regularly scheduled Game Two (seven innings) will be played.
