Eastern Ohio gets the spotlight in Utica shale development,but there is drilling in three local counties: Portage, Stark and Wayne.
According to Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Portage County has four horizontal Utica wells producing or capable of producing. Stark County has two wells.
Those Portage wells produced 488 barrels of oil and 32,982,000 cubic feet of natural gas in 1Q 2014.
CNX Gas Co, has its Archer well in Rootstown Township. It produced all of Portage County's production in the quarter.
Chesapeake Energy has its Hosey well in Suffield Township that showed zero production in the quarter.
Mountaineer Keystone has two wells in Portage County's Windham Township. They had zero production.
Stark County's wells produced 1,965 barrels of oil in the quarter plus 33,233,000 cubic feet of natural gas.
Chesapeake Energy has its Drevon well is Osnaburg Township east of Canton. It produced 631 barrels of oil and 10,065,000 cubic feet of natural gas.
EnerVest Ltd. has its Frank Unit well in Marlboro Township in northern Stark County.
It produced 1,33 barrels of oil and 23,168,000 cubic feet of natural gas.
Devon Energy reported zero production from its Hershberger well in Wayne County's East Union Township.
The company had earlier drilled a wlll near Lodi in southern Medina County. That well was later scrapped because of poor production.
Chesapeake Energy Corp,the Oklahoma-based firm is the No. 1 driller in Ohio.
