A decision by Ohio judge in the spotlight
A decision by Harrison County Common Pleas Judge Michael Nunner has limited Chesapeake Energy's ability to to drill on a property where the Oklahoma-based energy giant has leased the mineral rights.
His decision is "rattling the industry," says reporter Alison Grant.
Chesapeake was sued by a landowner, the Jewett Sportsmen and Farmers Club. The club owns 187 acres and the mineral rights are owned by a coal company.
The judge says that Chesapeake cannot drill under the sportsmen's club without its permission.
To date, Chesapeake has built a 12-acre concrete pad but has not drilled any wells.
