American Electric Power, the Columbus-based energy giant, is doing well in the Utica shale drilling area of eastern Ohio.
It reported that sales of gigawatt hours increased 29 percent in first quarter 2014 from first quarter 2013, Columbus Business First reported.
That, the utility said, was due to shale drilling activities.
Industrial sales in nonshale counties fell by 0.4 percent.
