The Anchorage Daily News reports that the state's natural resource regulators have introduced new potential guidelines for unconventional drilling.
The regulations include basic permitting and notifications, water testing and construction guidelines for wells.
The U.S. Geological Survey has identified two large gas and oil regions Alaska, the Cook Inlet region along the southern shore and the north formation is comprised of the National Petroleum Reserve, the National Wildlife Reserve and the Central North Slope. The Yukon Flats is a smaller formation below the north.
