A meeting organized to plan a campaign to ban hydraulic fracturing or fracking in Kent is set for 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
The meeting, sponsored by several grass-roots groups including Concerned Citizens Ohio, will be held at the Kent Free Public Library on West Main Street.
Organizers would like to see more local control in terms of oil and natural gas drilling, said spokesman George Sosebee.
At present, drilling is largely directed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources with little local say.
The work meeting follows a town meeting last week that drew 130 and a rally the previous week that was attended by 110.
