Anti-fracking petition circulating in Kent

By Bob Downing Published: March 12, 2012

Concerned Citizens Ohio, a grass-roots group, is circulating an anti-fracking petition in Kent.

The plan is to present the petition to Kent City Council on March 28.

The petition calls on Kent to reclaim its local rights on horizontal hydraulic fracturing or fracking of natural gas that have been taken over by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

It also calls for a ban on fracking within the Kent city limits.

The group is also seeking Kent residents willing to address City Council on March 28.

Iris Meltzer said similar petitions will be presented to cities, townships and villages across Portage County.

Kent residents can sign the petition from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday and again on March 24 at the Gazebo in downtown Kent.
