The Columbus Dispatch reports today that Chesapeake Energy wants to sell 337,481 acres in parts of 19 Ohio counties to reduce its debt.
After the proposed sale, the Oklahoma-based company would still have 1 million acres leased in Ohio, more than any other company.
The land is being listed by Meagher Energy Advisers, which said Chesapeake intends to focus in the parts of Ohio where its holdings are most concentrated.
The leases being offered by Chesapeake include land in Summit, Portage, Wayne, Huron, Ashland, Lorain, Ashtabula, Geauga and Trumbull counties.
Also available are leases in Licking, Fairfeld, Hocking, Vinton, Muskingum, Perry, Morgan, Athens, Meigs and Washington counties.
