Company proposes gas-fired power plant near Toledo

By Bob Downing Published: September 6, 2012

The Toledo Blade reports that a Boston-based company wants to build a natural gas-fired power plant outside Toledo.

The $850 million facility would be built by North American Project Development LLC.

The 800-megawatt plant would be built on a 30-acre site in the Toledo suburb ofr Oregon.

Construction is at least one year away and would take 26 to 30 months.

The plant would be the first base-load power plant in Ohio to be fueled by natural gas.

Natural gas is fueling peaking power plants in Ohio. But coal has been the main fuel for base-load plants that produce most day-to-day power..

The new plant would be built not far from FirstEnergy Corp.'s Bay Shore power plant, a coal-fired plant that is in partial operation.
