The Neff Volunteer Fire Department in Belmont County may be saved by a drilling lease.
The department has signed a lease with Texas-based Paloma Resources that will pay $7,000 an acre and a royalty of 20 percent.
The lease covers 56.4 acres.
The fire department has debts of about $1 million and has filed for bankruptcy protection in federal court in Columbus.
