The site at http://fracfocus.org now lists information on 15,000 wells across the country including some in eastern Ohio.
It is managed by two agencies: the Ground Water Protection Council and the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission.
Many drillers voluntarily list volumes of water used and what chemicals are used in the hydraulic fracturing or fracking process.
That includes Chesapeake Energy, the No. 1 player in Ohio's Utica shale.
