Halcon Resources Corp. has acquired leases on 34,000 acres in Trumbull and Mahoning counties in Northeast Ohio.
The Texas-based company paid $194 million to NCL Appalachian Partners that held the leases. according to the Marcellus Drilling News.
The deal involves 31,000 acres in Trumbull County and 3,000 acres in Mahoning County.
The Youngstown Vindicator reported that the deal involves mostly older leases that date back to the 1960s through 1980s in the Lordstown area.
NCL Appalachian is also a Texas-based company.
Chesapeake Energy Corp,the Oklahoma-based firm is the No. 1 driller in Ohio.
