Health impact study planned in New York
Environmental and health groups in New York are happy that the New York General Assembly included an independent health impact study of hydraulic fracturing or fracking for natural gas in its budget proposal released this week.
The groups had been critical of the Department of Environmental Conservation for not including a comprehensive health impact study in its environmental review of gas drilling.
New York is considering lifting its moratorium and permitting drilling for the first time in its Marcellus shale.
