Is Medina County on route of new natural gas pipeline?

By Bob Downing Published: April 29, 2013

From Medina County Concerned Citizens, a grassroots group concerned by shale drilling, late last week:

Medina County Concerned Citizens learned this morning(April 25)  that there was a meeting involving one or more of the participants in the Nexus Pipeline Project, one or more County Commissioners, and Township Trustees. This was in regards to the 36-inch (possibly larger) Nexus gas pipeline being routed through Medina County.
All information from this meeting was elicited by questions from Concerned Citizens.
The 36-inch (possibly larger) Nexus Pipeline, at this point, is scheduled to be routed through the southern portion of Medina County, traversing parts of Wadsworth, Guilford, Montville, Lafayette, York and Litchfield.
No information as to the placement of compressor stations and cryogenic plants was provided at this meeting today.
Public meetings with landowners for leasing to secure easements would be scheduled soon.
No seismic testing would be done for the placement of the pipeline, only surveys.
The majority of the pipeline would be buried underground and that above ground you would see the portion with valves and connectors.
We requested maps or written documentation from the meeting. We were told at this point there were none.
The County Commissioner’s office would be the liaison for any future information.
Beyond Medina County, the route of the pipeline could be south of Oberlin moving northwest to Michigan.
We were advisedthere was no discussion today with the Nexus reps as to the routing beyond Michigan, such as to Canada for exporting the product.
