Kinder Morgan donates $20,000 for new Ohio walking path

By Bob Downing Published: November 18, 2015

A Texas-based pipeline giant is contributing $20,000 to help a township in Ohio's Wayne County build a new walking path.

The contribution came from Houston-based Kinder Morgan Inc. that is planning its Utopia East Pipeline that will cross East Union Township.

The company announced its $20,000 pledge in an Nov. 10 Facebook post and a meeting with township officials.

The 1-mile loop will be built in East Union Park in Apple Creek.

The company also donated $100,000 to a township near Fremont, Ohio.

The 240-mile Utopia East Pipeline will run from Cadiz in Harrison County to Fulton County in northwest Ohio where it will connect with existing pipeleines.

The 12-inch-in-diameter pipeline will transport ethane and ethane-propane to Windsor, Ont., to Nova Chemicals Corp.

It would transport 50,000 barrels per day. That could be expanded to 75,000 barrels per day with additional pump stations.

The $500 million pipeline would begin operations in January 2018.

Locally, the line will run through parts of Stark and Wayne counties.
