Latest Ohio drilling permit totals
To date, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources has approved 207 permits for drilling natural gas wells in Ohio's Utica shale.
As of April 30, 62 horizontal wells have been drilled, according to the latest state data.
The first Utica well was permitted in late 2009.
The No. 1 county for permist is Carroll County with 70 permits.
No. 2 is Columbiana County with 31. Jefferson County has 20 permits. Monroe County has 15 permits and Harrison County has 11.
Locally, Stark County has 10 permits, Portage County has seven and Medina County has one.
There are no permits for Summit or Wayne counties.
In addition, Ohio has permitted 13 Marcellus shale wells, of which seven have been drilled.
