Mahoning County approves Halcon Resources' seismic testing

By Bob Downing Published: September 10, 2013

Last month, the Mahoning County commissioners approved a one-year road-use maintenance agreement to allow Halcon Resources LLC of Houston to perform seismic testing for oil and natural-gas deposits along county and township roads in six townships.

The exploration is to occur in Austintown, Jackson, Milton, Berlin, Ellsworth and Canfield townships.

Front Runner Seismic Inc. of Westfield, Pa., will perform the seismic testing for Halcon, the Youngstown Vindicator reported.

Halcon will pay the county and townships about $600 per mile for occupancy of the roads for the testing, which is the equivalent of an ultrasound of the ground. It will pay the county for the county roads it occupies and the townships for the township roads it occupies.

Under the agreement, Halcon will repair any roads it damages.
