Moody & Associates Inc. announced on Wednesday the opening a new office in Canton.
The firm provides hydrogeological consulting services to support the gas and oil industry in the Utica shale under eastern Ohio.
Officials said 20 new employees will be hired within the next three years. Three workers have been transferred from other Moody & Associatess offices.
"This is a natural expansion for our company," said Jeff Moody, president of Moody & Associates. "We have been involved with various aspects of the oil and gas market for more than 30 years and are excited about contributing to the many growth opportunities Utica shale brings to the area."
The company said it has been retained for projects in 12 Ohio counties including Summit, Stark and Portage.
Its primary offerings include stray gas migration investigations, groundwater feasibility studies, pre-drilling water supply surveys, water management plans and post-drilling water complaint resolutions.
Chesapeake Energy Corp,the Oklahoma-based firm is the No. 1 driller in Ohio.
