More than 100 organizations -- including environmental, religious and public-health groups -- have expressed concern about President Obama's endorsement of hydraulic fracturing or fracking in his State of the Union talk.
On Monday, the 109 groups sent a joint letter to the president.
"Amid mounting evidence of the harm and significant costs associated with drilling and fracking, it is premature to declare that government investment in shale drilling has been a success," the letter says.
The groups say they have more than 3 million supporters in 16 states.
