On Feb. 14, the Nature Conservancy released a first-of-its-kind report looking at the potential impacts of hydraulic fracturing or fracking on forests in New York state.
Tradeoffs will be required, if New York proceeds to approve drillin in the Marcellus shale, the national eco-group said.
The study and modeling look specifically at Tioga County just north of the the New York-Pennsylvania state line.
Drilling and construction of pads, pipelines and new roads would have a major impact by reducing and fragmenting the local forest, the study said.
