NiSource, Hilcorp announce $300 million Utica deal

The parent company of Columbia Gas of Ohio on Monday announced plans for a $300 million joint venture in the Utica shale with Texas-based Hilcorp Energy Co.

Thye deal involves NiSource Inc.'s Midstream and Minerals Group., based in Indiana.

The project's first phase will get under way this year in Northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

The two companies will pool their Utica acreage with Hilcorp doing thew drilling.

They are also establishing a midstream joint venture  called Pennant Midstreamto construct an initial 50 miles of pipelines for wet gases or ethanes, butanes and propanes.

A natural gas processing plant in Northeast Ohio is also planned, although no location was mentioned by company officials. It wouldbe designed to handle 200 million  cubic feet per day.

There was no word on how much acreage the two companies own.
