No news on Natrium plant reopening after Sept. 21 fire

By Bob Downing Published: October 4, 2013

There is no news yet on when Blue Racer Midstream's gas-processing and fractionation  plant at Natrium, W. Va., might reopen.

The plant was hit by an explosion and fire on Sept. 21.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, and several investigations are continuing, said Dominion spokesman Jim Norvelle in a telephone interview today.

A damage estimate has not yet been compiled, he said.

Damage was limited to a small section of the plant, he said.

There is no restart date set yet, he said.

It's no secret that some producers are getting anxious about the plant's continued closure.

Blue Racer Midstream was formed by Dominion and Caiman Energy II.

The $500 million Natrium plant is designed to process up to 200,000 cubic feet of natural gas per day plus separate 36,000 42-gallon barrels of liquids.

It opened in late June.

It is part of a $1.5 billion transportation-and-separating system planned by Blue Racer.

Additional capacity is planned at the Natrium complex next to the Ohio River.
