ODNR approves four new Utica shale permits in Portage County
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources have approved four new Utica shale permits in Portage County.
The permits, all in Nelson Township, were requested by Mountaineer Keystone LLC.
That brings the number of active permits in Ohio to 485. Some older permits are expiring.
As of Dec. 29, 199 wells have been drilled in eastern Ohio with 45 wells in production.
A total of 29 drilling works are working in Ohio.
Carroll County remains No. 1 with 177 permits from 2010 to 2012.
