The Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management has approved seven new drilling permits in the Utica shale.
That brings the state total to 382, of which 144 have been drilled since December 2009.
The new permits are three in Portage County, two in Harrison and one each in Mahoning and Monroe, according to filings from the week of Sept. 16.
Carroll County is No. 1 with 139 permits.
No. 2 is Columbiana County with 51 permits. Harrison County has 35, Jefferson, 28, and Guernsey, 24.
Other totals include Monroe, 18, Mahoning, 14, Stark and Portage, 13, Noble, 12, and Belmont, 10.
Ohio also has approved 16 permits for Marcellus shale wells, of which seven have been drilled.
Chesapeake Energy Corp,the Oklahoma-based firm is the No. 1 driller in Ohio.
