The latest data from the Ohio Department of Natural resources' Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management show 285 Utica shale permits have been issued.
Of that total, 92 wells have been drilled in eastern Ohio, according to data from the week of July 1.
Carroll Countysoutheast of Canton has the most permits: 98.
No. 2 is Columbiana County with 45. Jefferson County is No. 3 with 25.
In addition, Harison County has 19 permits, Monroe has 16, Mahoning has 12, Noble has 12 and Guernsey has 11.
Locally, Stark County has 12 permits, Portage has 7, Wayne has one and Medina has one.
