A federal grant of $199,766 will be used to develop a new 25-county initiative to deal with Utica shale development in eastern Ohio.
The grant is from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration.
The project will be directed by Ohio State University in a partnership with four planning agencies: the Akron-based Northeast Ohio Four-County Regional Planning and Development Organization, the Buckeye Hills-Hocking Valley Regional Development District, the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments and the Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association.
The planning agencies will work to implement the plan at the local level.
It is the first time that the planning agencies have collaborated on such a project.
