Ohio has 460 drilled Utica shale wells, 819 wells permitted

By Bob Downing Published: July 31, 2013

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has issued 819 Utica shale permits, as of July 27.

Of that total, 460 wells have been drilled. A total of 119 wells are in production.

The number of wells drilled is an increase of 70 from the state's previous report on July 20.

That's a lot of new wells in one week.

Word came later from ODNR that it had found a glitch and had simply updated its files.

Fact is: 70 wells were NOT drilled last week in Ohio.

The state reports that 31 rigs are working in Ohio.

A total of seven new permits were issued: three in Belmont County, three in Carroll County and one in Columbiana County.
