Ohio has approved 1,283 Utica shale permits, as of May 24.
That includes 869 Utica wells that have been drilled and 399 wells that are in production, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Division of Oil & Gas Resources Management.
It says 41 rigs are working in Ohio.
The 19 new permits are: Belmont County, two; Carroll County, two; Guernsey County, four; Harrison County, one; Monroe County, two; and Noble County, eight.
Chesapeake Energy Corp,the Oklahoma-based firm is the No. 1 driller in Ohio.
