Ohio has now approved 979 Utica shale permits.
Of that total, 601 wells have been drilled and 180 wells are in production as of Nov. 9, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
A total of 38 rigs are drilling in Ohio, it reports.
The 20 newest Utica permits are for Belmont County, 2; Carroll County, 6; Harrison County, 2; Monroe County, 7; Noble County, 2; and Tuscarawas County, 1.
Chesapeake Energy Corp,the Oklahoma-based firm is the No. 1 driller in Ohio.
