Ohio has approved 512 permits for drilling in the Utica shale.
That is the new total as of Feb. 2 as listed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management.
Of that total, 223 wells have been drilled and 50 are in production.
A total of 27 drilling rigs are working in Ohio.
The 14 new permits are Carroll County, 5; Columbiana County, 2; Guernsey County, 1; Harriosnon County, 3; Jefferson County, 1; Noble County, 1; and Trumbull County, 1.
Carroll County remains No. 1 with 185 permits.
Harrison County is second with 65 permits and Columbiana County is third with 64 permits.
Chesapeake Energy Corp,the Oklahoma-based firm is the No. 1 driller in Ohio.
