A total of 348 Utica shale permits have been issued since December 2009 by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management.
To date, 126 of those wells have been drilled.
That is based on information filed Aug. 28 for the week of Aug. 19.
Carroll County southeast of Canton remains No. 1 in Ohio with 128 permits.
Its Loudon Township has 26 permits and Lee Township has 23 permits. Washington Township has 13 permits, Perry Township has 12, East Township has 11 and Augusta Township has 10.
The No. 2 county for permits is Columbiana County with 49.
Other totals are Harrison County, 32; Jefferson, 28; Guernsey and Monroe, both with 17; Noble and Mahoning, both with 12; and Belmont with eight.
Locally, Stark County has 13 permits, Portage has 10; and Wayne and Medina, both have one.
Ohio also has approved 16 Marcellus shale permits, of which seven wells have been drilled.
