Pennsylvania is looking to spend $5 million in fees generated from Marcellus shale drillers to ease housing shortages in areas that have been flooded by a migrating stream of industry workers.
The money administered by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency is from a special fund that lawmakers carved out of impact fees from the booming drilling industry to address housing issues.
Much of the $5 million could end up in the counties surrounding Pittsburgh, according to the agency.
