Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection is getting ready to begin new inspections of Marcellus and Utica shale wells, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Since February 2011, drillers have been required to conduct a mechanical integrity inspection of every well four times a year and to submit those reports to the state.
Now the state is prepared to begin its own inspections.
