Pennyslvania shale drilling generated $3.5 billion in 2011

An  Associated Press analysis reported on Saturday that Marcellus shale gas wells in Pennyslvania generated about $3.5 billion in gross revenues for drillers in 2011.

In addition, drillers in West Virginia produced an additional $1.2 billion.

Experts told the Associated Press that even more money will be derived in the futurure, in light of recent price drops for natural gas.

In 2011, the Marcellus shale produced just over 1 trillion cubic feet of gas in Pennsylvania and about 350 billion cubic feet of gas in West Vi9rginia.

Pennsylvania has about 2,200 wells that were inj production in 2011.

Ohio has almost no Marcellus shale production. It is developing the deeper Utica shale.

New York state has not allowed drilling.
