A new report by Farmers National Co. shows that drilling lease bonuses paid to landowners in Ohio are dramatically on the rise.
The bonuses in Ohio have jumped nearly 13 times from a year ago, says the company, a real estate management firm for property owners.
The highest reported bonus in Ohio is $8,200 an acre.
The bonuses paid landowners have also climbed 1.75 times in West Virginia and 2.3 times in Pennsylvania, the report says.
Royalties paid for production are dropping because of the lower prices for natural gas and natural-gas liquids.
